HI YOU LOT hope your all ok...well this lil treasure I found at an old reboubt in the north island and after cleaning it a bit I noticed the inscription around the edge...CANTERBURY POLICE FORCE..I googled it and read that the gold rush in n/z became a turbulent place to be in the 60s ..so they formed a police force out of irishmen/etc from the aussie gold fields to sort it out...it was in force from 1867 till about 1880, when the gold dried up it was disbanded and some of them joined the newly formed armed constabulary...unusal and still a lot i dont know about it..will post it on the whatsit forum..back mark a bit hard to read ..sort of ...standar..extra..whee..???...hopefully a member will sort it for me......thanks for looking..des ps there is a canterbury police force in new south wales australia..just wondering if it is an australian button of that era.???

Hey Des

Interesting find for the Norht island, wouldnt have expected to see that.
:icon_thumright:
For reading the back try the paper and pencil trick, You can be surprised what that can produce on those hard to read things.

Cheers Sasnz
