Found with my Ace today in the back yard .
the copper thing is solid , the thing on the shaft slides .
I was very happy to find my first bird band -
it says RETURN TO MAINE F & G DEPT AUGUSTA C 627

I remember reading a lot of posts on TNET over the years of found bird bands , I find them fascinating .
I plan to call the Maine Dept of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife tomorrow . Maine Fish & Game does not exist any more .

I emailed the State People with my query about the bird band -and they wrote me back -

Scott,

Below is the response from Brad Allen, our bird group leader. For context, historically (decades ago) the Maine Wildlife Park (which was called the Maine Game Farm at the time) raised 1,000's of pheasants that were released across the state for hunting purposes. It seems likely that your band came from one of those birds. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I hope to find another one someday !
