Found this coin in a field next to a mid 1800s fort can't identify anything or figure out what kind it is. Head is facing right. Can't see much on the back. Bit bigger than a quarter but thinner.
Maybe some kind of president token? I think I can faintly make out the word "president" on the front on top. Though I could be wrong hard to say.

It'd be something like this.

Any suggestions on best ways to clean it without damaging?
I'd be careful regarding cleaning when it comes to copper and brass. I have messed up so many things trying to clean them. Brass and copper can be super finicky. Lots of things will turn brass and copper pink or leave pitting so be very careful in that regard. I'd for now only get the dirt off with water and gently brush with a tooth brush. From there I'd wait for someone more knowledgeable to chime in.
