It's been raining hard all morning. As soon has it stop raining I was out the door and went to a 1800's spring house to detect.
I found a copper cap. What intrigues me is that this cap has a 10 star Patriot shield on it with 5 vertical strips. It looks old. Is this for a bottle or jug or is it for something else. I don't know. Any thoughts.
I also found what looks like an oriental charm. Thanks for looking.

Congratulations on some interesting finds. From your pictures the cap actually looks to me like stained aluminum. I could be wrong, but the coloration and the bending suggests aluminum to me. Copper in a wet area normally comes out of the ground green. A little cleaning will tell for sure. Many bottle caps used on liquor have been made of aluminum. That might be a place to start when trying to identify the cap. Stay safe, good luck and keep swingin.

Thanks tnt-hunter. You could be right. I took some steel wool and cleaned a small. It seems to keep it copper color. The metal is stiff and hard and I can not bend it at all like aluminum. I found it in a stream very deep under rock and gravel . I've found a pewter tea pot in a stream that was completely crush. It also ID on my detector the same as a copper coin .
I probably got the metal wrong. Maybe it could be brass. I looked up copper & brass differences and brass as a lighter finish with a bright sheen. I don't know.
I did a little more cleaning and it seems to be polishing up to a lite brass sheen. Maybe it's brass.

great saves, very interesting cap

Hard to tell what that cap could be from. I think tnt-hunter might be right, as brass turns green in the ground, at least in my area. Nice charm as well. Also any idea what the other piece has on it? It looks like it could be an eagle. Is it possible it is military related?

Interesting finds! That cap sure looks like brass from here, which makes it seem rather old to me.
I've found many brass items in the Truckee river (Lake Tahoe) that came out of the water looking just like that.
