Hey smf,

Puts me in mind of the top of a mechanical pencil. What are the letters at the top?

Is the inside threaded? I swear it looks like an old car door lock knob. The one you would pull up and push down. Not sure if any high end cars used silver but I doubt i. The numbers on there stump me.
I know its not what i think it is but I am posting it because that keeps coming back to me as something like that or as a knob for a pressure device.

It doesn't look to be threaded but it is so small it is very hard to look inside. From what I can see it is not threaded.

Maybe a pipe tamper. Just a shot in the dark.

I have a air pressure gauge something close to that, the numbers are pressures on mine, maybe it is part of an old broken one. If I can find mine I will add pic.

It's the top off of a late Georgian (early 1800s) telescopic & perpetual calendar pencil & yes its silver. I knew it had something to do with a calendar by the numbers & letters (S,S Saturday Sunday) The very top was used as a wax seal. That is a fantastic find! Really neat! I've never seen one on here. I've added a few images below that are almost identical. You can mark this one as solved! HH!

What ever it is, it isn't silver. It's plated, you can see were it's flaking, the inner part of a pressure gauge would be my thought to.

SS

I just posted the correct ID above. Not plated, have you never seen silver with black tarnish? Definitely not a tire gauge...

it is similar to the item you posted, but not exact....no I have never seen silver with black tarnish :laughing7: The item is clearly plated, why else would there be rust at the bottom.

I don't see rust I see dirt or tarnish. I have no doubt in my mind that this is what this item is.

It definitely is silver. It is heavily tarnished on the top and the bottom is just a iron connector.
