Hi all, one of the guys brought this old 30 cal machine gun by and gave it to me .He found two of them on a wooded hillside on base. Now how to get it home....
I will most likely try to restore it for a display for the base. It is one of the old ones made by general electric, maybe from the war as there was a lot of fighting here.
I know they started producing them in 1930s and are still in use today in many NATO countries .These were pretty much the backbone of the fighting position for the US during WW2-Desert Storm. Love it!
Thanks for looking.

Very cool, UPS it home!
Thank you for serving your country and putting your life on the line for us all back home!

Cool ........ Should be able to send it home I would think. Even though it was an auto it should just fall under curio and relic laws as a non-functioning relic. Sure need to check the laws as our current Zoo Crew in DC often looks at an inanimate object as living evil if it goes boom and is not in their possession. Some neat history there. :icon_thumleft:

Don't try to ship that back to the states or even put it on display in your squadron area without having it De-militarized first. Even though there are no internal parts and the barrel is missing, the receiver (the part you have) is still considered a class 3 firearm. You are allowed to ship firearms back to the states with the proper BATF forms but I don't think they allow class 3 firearm to be brought back. If you want to hang it on a wall, get someone with a cutting torch to cut a large section of the side plate out, on the side that will be against the wall. it needs to be made to were it could never function again.

Cool find by the way, I think i would make a lamp out of it!

Very nice birdman. Just a suggestion - before you invest time and money - clear it through base legal. It is better to be safe then sorry later.

That is a cool relic Trent. Good luck with it whatever you decide to do.

I had the SFS(cops) guys look at it and they had no concern . The main problem is this is a Korean base with only 80 US so there is not any thing like base legal here to go through.
I will go through the proper channels if I keep it or display it.Either way it is pretty cool.

Whoa! Now that's a find! Wrap it up and tell them it's a paddle.

Great piece! I would love to have one of those in my milsurp firearms collection. Thank you for serving.

Steve

Awesome find! Here's some useful info: only the right hand side plate counts as far as FFL concerns. You may not have to worry about it since it is in relic condition, but it would be best to check, because typically any weapon like that would require that the receiver be torch cut to batf specs for import. If that's required, all you need to do is remove the right hand side plate to comply.

 I KNEW you'd be finding some neat stuff over there! hahaha!
WTG!

Thats in great shape! There was a guy here in Chicago who was selling totally stripped down 50cal.M2's like that on Craigs List... I wanted to buy one but you never know what a set up that could be.
