Just scored this really neat looking Fraternal Order gold pin. More often the old ones are never marked, but its gold and probably 10k. I'm not sure which Fraternal Order it belongs to, but the skull and crossbones are simply awesome. Actually the only ones that are marked with a gold mark are some of the stickpins, the little Pegasus pin and the heart pin with rose diamonds and Pearl. The holed 1853 gold dollar isn't marked either, but they never were.

“Killer” score!

Awesome scores you have a good eye and knowledge of what your doing. Well done

I now have a collection of gold pins simply because you posted yours! I have no idea what I’m going to do with them, but it gets bigger every month! Your collection is nice! I don’t keep mine on the visor though.

Wish I could add more every month.

Phi kappa sigma. Should be 14k and a little over 2.5g.

I might have some of those in my collection of jewelry that I have collected from house clean outs but I haven't went through them yet....

You got it. The spot on weight at the coin shop where I got it was 2.63 grams, but he said it was 10k most likely and he did say the spot value was just a bit over 50 bucks, but I could have it for $50 cash, as he doesn't take credit. Now that I think about it he only weighed it and didn't retest for grade. So maybe it is 14k? so I'll have to find out. It would have been nice to get it cheaper, but buying anything gold at spot and in this case a tiny bit less, ain't so bad and I think on a good day this could sell in the $90. to $100. range on eBay, just because of the cool factor.

Outstanding! :notworthy:

Some of those pins are $150+. I’ve sold them up to $450. Don’t melt them til ya check em!

No I wouldn't scrap any of it. So that's good to know BK these little things might have a healthy premium over scrap. I recently bought and sold this cameo I got for five and change and sold for $142. Sad it was missing the setting, but my guess is someone may have took it to a scrap buyer and they told them they'd give the best price if they removed the setting as many scrap buyers care little of the significance of a piece of jewelry outside its value in precious metals. This little sardonyx shell cameo had a little significance in history and the Crimean War, plus it was very well carved. I thank members of TN in assisting me to what exactly it was and their help lead me in understanding it's true potential worth. Sad for the trift shop I guess, due to their lack of interest in it.

Have you thought about getting a test kit? They're cheap. Hint buy your acids separate and a good stone. Can't believe how much the price goes up when you order the set. Forget the acme break in a week wood box and store your kit in one of those plastic fishing tackle boxes. Mine with a diamond tester fits in a coat pocket. Money well spent! You'll be glad you did. The fun factor for me is when a dealer or pawn shop tells me it's 14k or a little heavy and I say "You sure about that?" as I pull my kit out & zero the scale. The expressions on their faces & stuttering alone is enough giggle factor to make the cost worthwhile. And you don't have to wait to see if you're doing the happy dance!
