"diggervet Jr." is now the undisputed champion of finding bullets in wood in our family. We were out in the woods the other day and I had found a few shot bullets on one side of the creek while dvj hadn't found anything. Within five minutes of his crossing over to my side of the creek, he had found the piece of wood shown below with a very strong signal that sounded like a bullet. I took it to work and an xray showed the distinct outline of a typical 3 ringer. This brings his total of b. i. w. to eight!

I like bullets in wood. It is like holding a little time capsule in your hand. I think it is cool that that bullet hasn't seen the light of day since sometime between 1861-1865. It represents one small moment frozen in time from the greatest tragedy in the history of our country.

Very cool that you have acess to an x-ray to do that. Are you going to cut it open somehow to display it?

That's funny you posted that DV...I was just at the farm at Antietam and was checking every old tree I came across, even the one's on the ground,no luck though.....sweet find!!!

Great find. I've been wanting to find a bullet in wood for some time now. I scan the old fallen trees at the properties I MD at.
Nothing yet, but I'm not going to give up.
Congrats,
MM

[/Probably won't cut it open, it's more "valuable" in its present state. Many times these are in the ground several inches since the tree they once belonged to has long since died.]

Great find, Diggervet! I found what appears to be a .69 caliber round ball in a fallen tree at a skirmish site in Georgia. Happy New Year!

[/Sure looks like it! They are becming harder to find and are always unique]

Since there are so many bullets out there, has anyone found a bullet in a piece of bone? I figure if a hawk band with bone inside can be found, there are many more bullets than bands out there. For that matter, has anyone found a ring or other jewelry attached to human remains?
Cool find BTW.

Thats a great relic find! I know a guy who found a large bone with a arrowhead embedded into it. The point looked to be about 2.5 to 3 inches long and was embedded about 1 inch into the bone! I am still looking for my first bullet in wood.
