Had a quick hunt on my lunch break. Found this constables badge. Made by the Williamson stamp company Minneapolis Minnesota only catalog I can find is catalog number 22 and it is not listed there company started in 1880. If anyone has access to any of their other catalogs and could date this for me I would appreciate it. Rang up at 70 on my AT Max was about 8 in deep according to my carrot. Found in the front yard of a home on Franklin Street . Uploading this from my cell phone so hope it works out first time trying this . Very cool find. Congrats.

That is bad a**. What a great find !! Congrats !!

Those are the finds that make this hobby so awesome Great job

Cool indeed. If it were mine, I'd polish it and be wearing it. Whenever I go out. Or maybe it would look better on my guitar strap.

Very cool. I can't see a municipality on it. Is there any? Or maybe it's a generic type badge.

Nope no municipality just says Constable on front and makers mark on rear, my first Badge. i was pretty excited and still am!!!
Would really like to date it but haven't found anything with google search's. Its nice it was made within 50 miles of my house, nice piece of local history saved.

I see a local bumpkin cop throwing it away as the James/Younger gang comes trotting toward him after Northfield :icon_thumright:

What a great piece of Americana, congrats:icon_thumleft:

Right your the second person to tell me that, they did stop for breakfast at our stage coach stop and payed in gold coin so the story goes. to the best of my knowledge there were 2 stops in this area i know 1 has never been detected and i have sole permission to it just not enough time.

Very cool piece of history! :occasion14:

Beautiful and historic find, congratulations. Constables were officers of the local court, and served papers with limited police powers. Your "generic" badge was once nickle or silver plated, with soft black or blue enamel lettering. The little "dingbats" (decorations) were a nice touch. Local libraries or the courthouse may have old phone books or records of who lived at the house where you found it. It would be cool to discover that a constable lived there, and you would have a name.

My "Badge Hallmarks for Collectors" book indicates that Williamson Stamp Company was in business at 16 No. Third Street, Minneapolis, from about 1930-1950.

Cheers. Sub 8-)
