Considering moving to oregon

Oregon is sweet, however it is pretty liberal......seems the pioneer spirit is mia.

Don't have to mention liberal. I live in California in a area that still seems its cool to protest anything. Roseburg is only like 4 hours north of here and it's a decent job but unless there's things to do for families and outdoors in central Oregon there isn't a point to moving. I don't mind going toward Eugene for fun and camping though

Moving is very expensive and can be stressful. Unless the job pays really well I would stay where you are unless some reason like crime or a lack of a job forces you to move. And if you have a house to sell, well we all know how long that can take.....

No house to sell. The job averages around $26-30 an hour maybe more. I rent a house so not a problem to load everything up and take off. My job now only pays around $12 an hour.

if the offered job is pretty secure then I would move as you will more than double your income. With no house to sell I would move. If you don't like it you can always move back and get another place to live easy enough and in California a $12.00 an hour job should be pretty easily replaced.

Lived in Roseburg many years back, and had a sister living there till about
8 years ago (and a ton of family before that..lol). Roseburg is a nice town,
although it's grown a great deal since I lived there, and for the most party,
the folks are a very "environmentally conscious" crowd, but that is mostly
the "in town" people.

Get outside town a ways and, like anywhere else, you find all kinds of folks. If you
happen to be driving a Subaru with 16 million miles on it and a few rainbow stickers
on the back bumper, then some of them would probably invite you in for dinner. :occasion14:

The area itself is beautiful, and there's much to do all year long. It is warmer there
than in the Portland area, and the winters aren't too bad if ya don't mind being wet,
but again, it's generally drier than Portland. Lots of history in the area, and the
Umpqua River (and a dozen others) can keep your freezer full of salmon and
steelhead. Good hunting too, and lots of backcountry to run around in during the
summer months, and you should have decent river access all year long.

Hate to be nosy, but what kind of work do you do? (curious minds gotta know...lol)

Seriously, I wouldn't hesitate to live there were I offered a good position. Forget the
politics and you'll find nice people and a town with an active community.

I deal blackjack and other casino games. The casino there when I asked would hire me because I wouldn't need trained on much and I have friends who work there. I'm going up there I think in April after I go back to work and looking j to rentals and other things. I have a few bookmarks of some campgrounds not far from there that allow panning and such so it may be a decent move. I live in Northern California now where our winters suck for rain already so in used to it
