So today I had an hour to detect and decided to go back to the same site that I have dug many Colonial and Civil War relics. This site is a construction site in Savannah, GA that is just about finished, concrete curbs are in and final grade markers all over the place. This is also the site where I had dug my first Confederate Republican Blues button back in August (posted on TNet). Well, I dug another Confederate Republican Blues Button today! I caught it on video and you can see it on YouTube. But I wanted to go ahead and post it now. This button is rare and the back mark is rare. This one is in better condition than the first one (has the shank).

For those of you not familiar, the Republican Blues were formed in 1808 through the Civil War. After the Civil War they became part of the Georgia National Guard and still serve today as a modular artillery brigade of the Georgia Army National Guard. It is a coveted button representing one of Savannah's elite units in the Civil War.

I added the first 2 pictures after cleaning and preserving with Renaissance Wax.

Banner all the way!

Geo

That’s nice! I agree with GeoW. Banner vote submitted. Good luck!

I like the button! I was in the Georgia Army National Guard year’s ago and Fort Stewart was our normal summer camp.

Thanks! It is a big FEELIN HURTER for one of my hunting buddies. He had just been there the day before digging at the top of the hill about 20’ away (you can see his dig spot when I look up the hill at the street in the video). Actually wished I had some company to share the find. Much more enjoyable to share it in person. Love the competition and camaraderie.

Congrats on a rare piece of history! Very nice!!

That's a very desirable button, I have seen a few that were dug in the Savannah area and even one that was dug in Connecticut. Here is the one that was dug in Connecticut.
