with jeff davis personal belongings * being found in waldo, florida by union troops later on --its my personal view that -- something along these lines occured ---- this is my "rough" theory -----mr reynolds * a confederate officer (who's name just happens to match that of the "paymaster" in the hidden gold tales*) --who was known to be in the area (he was at the battle of olustee *) as was JJ dickison (who was later on in waldo * florida helping high ranking confederate officals escape)--- both reynolds and dickison were small group specialist --- they were hit and run types--- thus very familiar with slipping around large union forces --as dickison was in waldo setting up escape routes and gathering escape supplies to get the officals and gold to a blockade runner --reynolds went north into georgia to hook up with the jeff davis group --upon linking up --reynold left with the gold shipment and jeff davis's personal gear * leaving behind some men to guide the davis group -- but before they could go on the davis group was caught in irwinville , ga. --reynolds went on to waldo with the gold and jeff davis personal belongings --while in waldo hooking up with dickison --reynold heard that davis had been caught (since he was caught jeff davis's personal gear was left in waldo -- since it was now not as "pressing" to get it out) -- reynolds then got together with dickison --they decided to continue on with the plan to get the confederate gold out of the country (the paper money was worthless as the war was lost )--so reynolds with a small group of trusted men took the gold (in saddle bags most likely) and headed south towards the tampa area to try to hook up a blockade runner -- near tampa --union troops spotted and gave chase forcing them into the swampy area when they hid the money -- after a few days in the swamp they ran short on food and supplies and were forced to leave the swamp area and were captured by union troops and held as POW 's till the wars end --after the war was over they came back and attempted to recover the money but their searching was in vain and they could not find it again .-----sound reasonible to you?--- thus the tale of the swamp gold begins ---* now how will it end?
