Today I decided to do a short hunt and see if I could find a few non ferrous targets at my Civil War honey hole. I think after about 20 bent nails i finally got a .22 casing. Then I got a few other targets, foil, another casing, zinc lid fragments. My site is SMOKED but sometimes it gives up good relics, when you hit it right.
My trophy today was a SWEET little cuff sized button, with the script letters "BS" and a backmark dating to the 1840s. The back reads "Scovills & Co EXTRA" and this was used on lots of cuff buttons during the early part of the war. The BS stands for Bingham School and the school operated in the town I detect(Mebane, NC) from the early 1800s to 1891. My avatar picture is another button that I have found in Mebane.
Enjoy the pictures, and I made a short video, check it out!
