Thank you. Yes that is just a bit of the dry powder that was removed from the shell during disarming. It was a very neat process to watch.

Was it drilled under water?
 

Awesome find, never heard of that type of shell.

I seem to remember that normally a shell is drilled in desiel oil @TheCannonballGuy
 

Thank you. The gentleman that drilled it for me is a Civil War Artillery expert. He show me the shell in a books and told me it was the more scarce Confederate Broun Long shel. There is a short and a long Broun pattern. I had never heard of it either until he showed me it in the book
 

i love digging cannon shells :)
