IF that printing plate is genuine, and it could be......even if it was made by a counterfeiter, it could be worth alittle change. It is a very very cool find coming from a Civil War buff such as myself Congrats  :icon_thumleft:

Dug a Confederate plate !! Have you got a picture of the bill it produced? That is more than rare I would think :dontknow:
Banner find. Any story to go along with the recovery?

Re: confederate $10 printing plate & barber quarter

Thanks again everyone! YES it was an intense find ;D I do not have a pic of the bill yet & as far as a story behind it, it was dug in southwest MO. at a site going back to the late 1800's possibly earlier. It is actually kind of a odd place, it is just a big open field where I was told there were houses & I hear it was a tent city for the zinc miners back in late 1800 early 1900's. But the whole field just about everywhere you dig there are whole & broken bottles, blown & early machine, so it was definetely some kind of dumping ground also. This place also is right across a creek from the old RR tracks, I have found indian heads, wheats, mercurys, barbers, trade tokens, watch fobs, etc, etc. from this field & several antique bottles, this is a sight that will never be hunted out, any south west, MO. diggers out there??????

Re: confederate $10 printing plate & barber quarter

Is the plate made of lead? I'm thinking it is a printing plate for a newspaper or magazine,
and would also explain the facsimile marking. Still, at GREAT find! Theres collectors out there
just for printing plates. :hello2:
