Dug this item from a historic site. I've posted elsewhere to get ideas of what it was. Seems most thing this is a makeup compact, but haven't been about to find any like it. Size roughly the same as a half dollar. Composition seems to be thin stamped brass. Dug from about 7 inches deep or so. Site dates back to 1700s. Live in until 2000s.

Could it be a button possibly or is it a compact lid? No hinge point on the lid. Would have been a complete rim if intact.

I've found similar that were a compact lid.

Looks like a compact lid to me.

Consensus seems to be it's a compact lid. Will go with that then. Any thoughts on age? 1800's? Seems period.
