Found this brass relic at a site where I have found relics dating from the mid-1700s through the early 1800s. Any ideas?

I've never seen a gas valve that was designed to be hammered into a wooden keg. This one has all the characteristics of a keg tap for it has the tapered end with grooves as often is the case if not always. definitely not for gas.

I totally agree, & I believe it is from the 18th century-not wishful thinking, just a conclusion after comparing it to pics of others from that period. Also it was found in the same depth range as the many other 18th century relics I have found on that site.
