We have been working a colonial site that will soon be paved over and turned into some factory. The site has been worked over for about 20 years by a few people but now that it is going to disappear we have been hitting it a couple of times a week after the workers leave. Between 3 of us we have been able to pull maybe 50 buttons, tons of pottery, a CSA officers button (which I didn't find), a 1/2 reale, a few buckles and last night my buddy dug a 1783 Nova Constalletio.

Great job saving those relics before they are lost forever. That's an outstanding shoe buckle! Congrats for the half real and to your buddy for finding that Nova.

I agree - you've pulled some great items here! Interesting button collection - it would be nice to see those if you decide to clean them up. Looks like some nice detail in them. Great job! :icon_thumright:

Yeah it seems that around a 1/4 or more of the buttons have various sorts of eagle designs on the back. One weekend when I get a chance I plan on trying to clean off some of them.

Great effort, especially given that these things would truly be lost otherwise.

A full shoebuckle (love the border work) plus some Spanish is wonderful. Curious about the mintmark on the King Carlos...Mexico City or something more exotic?

Hello dman80. Excellent finds!! That buckle is beautiful and I would love to find a coin like that

Those kind of sites are very hard to find here in FL. Good Luck hope you can save more before the concrete and asphalt arrives. C9

It's an M but it's worn above it so I can't see an O or a crown if either exists, so I'll just assume Mexico.

beautiful buckle, makes me think of a wealthy person owning it. swashbucklers and such. awesome recoveries for you guys

Oh yeah, that's a beautiful bounty of colonial goods. Keep at it 'till you need to move out of the way of the asphalt truck

Way to scoop up that history before it's lost forever. That buckle is amazing. Continued success as you get what you can.:headbang:

Thanks for sharing the post and pics ! You have saved quite a bit of History. Awesome !!
