Hey all, been awhile since posting and after waiting what seemed like forever for a 400 acre hayfield to be hayed and work with my schedule, I got the chance! It was worth the wait! My girlfriend and I started hunting and fifteen minutes into the hunt out comes a french dropped musketball and about fifty feet away another. We were on the hunt! About an hour later I got a great high tone signal mixed with a iron signal at 5.5 inches and chose to dig. Out comes this beautiful silver buckle (1.5 x 1 ") Checking the hole I found the reason for the iron signal. A piece of iron from the same time frame! Checking the hole again I got a signal and looked and looked in the heavy clay and then a 29th regiment pewter button pops out! Checking around the area of these finds five more french dropped musketballs come out! Unbelieveable! My girlfriend and I did high fives! Two more musketballs (British this time) come out before we pack it in and leave for the day. What a great hunt. Anyone with more info on the buckle would be appreciated. Thanks for looking!

Age, and beauty.

Real treasure that is.

Beautiful knee buckle, probably belonged to an officer.

The silver buckle is a great piece to dig out of the same hole as the regiment button . A Beautiful eye catcher for any display ! Congrdulations ! M.R.

Whoahhhhh! Amazing buckle! I'm completely wracked with envy at the moment. ;D

O wow My vote is in!!

I have seen something like that in a museum. It had a cross bar and a small "prong" that went into the strap to hold it. Perhaps that third point was actually a prong. Just my guess. Frank

Thanks all for looking and chiming in. I still can't believe it. And yes, my thought process is that it was an officers from the 29th regiment due to the button being found in same area. And yes the mark on the back is a lion. I'll post some new pics soon. This site was a spot where 15000 troops camped the night before an assault in 1700's. Going back tuesday to check out another opportunity. I'll keep you posted!

Here's a closeup of the backmark. Definitely a lion!
