Maybe you know something I don't about rope tension drums, so you can correct me if I'm wrong. My son is the drummer for my Civil War reenactment unit and I did a fair amount of research before I bought his drum. I never saw a field drum with metal tugs. Especially not that small.

I think you have the backing to a western style bolo tie slide. The holes were used to mount an arrowhead.

Im no expert it was just a guess. As far as a bolo tie slide wouldn't there have to be 2 loops on the back because there is two ropes? We haven't found anything modern at this sight at all, Its produced a Gw button Spanish bust silver half reale and a few colonial coppers. It is a farm field so it is possible that it is modern but it looks old to me. Thanks for any advice bolo slide.JPG

Where did you find it ansd what's it made of? Brass?
