Found this at an old site near Charleston, SC that dates back to the late 1600s and saw some occupation during Rev war and colonial times. Backmark says Charles Brando, Charles Branco or Charles Franco perhaps? The front has some corrosion which resembles rust rather than pewter decay. I can make out an N as well as some other letters. It has a piecrust edge on the face. Any ideas? I couldn't find a match in Troiani's Rev war button book. Thanks in advance for any assistance. -gheenoe

I think the name on the back may be Charles Brandon. A Google search turned up Charles Brandon, the first Duke of Suffolk (1484 - 1545). There might be a connection.

Well, the backmark definitely says "Charles Brandon" or "Brandon Charles". The button is pewter but it's hollow. There's a pinhole on the face and I can see straight through one of the shank eyelets. Still no idea on the origin though.
