Hello All,

Got out a bit after the tropical storm passed us by. Got a couple nice goodies. I started off the day by digging a nice 1820s era Pewter U.S. button! After that, Shanegalang got a couple good finds, including a complete Colonial-Era jew's harp! I have most of one, but have never dug a complete jew's harp. So that was a killer find for him. Even better that it wasn't destroyed or bent by the plow. Shanegalang also got a third Shield nickel in two hunts. He's on fire for nickel. Now we need a couple nice picayunes to break the drought on Spanish silver we've been in recently. I think it'll happen, but we won't fully know the status of our best fields till harvest later on in the month.

Enjoy the video and photos.

I was pleased with this funky, homemade 3-hole button.

And of course the pewter U.S. militia button (my fourth of this type dug).

And here are photos of our combined finds.

Best Wishes for a great fall window everyone. Will be great to see TNet light up with some stellar finds this fall.

Can't believe you don't come across more jews harps... I have as many as you have spanish...lol...Love that US pewter!!
Great recoveries fellas!

I am surprised too. I've dug many pieces, just few whole ones. Saw a whole one come up in VA about 5 years ago. Dug most of a brass one last year, and a complete iron one. Now those iron ones don't get dug very often!

Good to hear from ya, my friend,

Buck

Will,
I'll make this quick as I'm watching "Dig Fellas" right now and they are detecting in Louisiana. I want to make sure they aren't hitting your spot. You should be able to hear them if they are. "HEY HOWARD!!!" :laughing7:
Congrats on that great pewter US button and the Jew's Harp. Shangalang was jamming with that thing! :headbang: You guys are always uncovering the coolest finds. I got a kick out of that musketball in the mud showing you who's boss.
Thanks for the video,
Doug

Yeah, it got the best of me. I threatened to melt it into a puddle and mail it to TN and it came out of the clod. :D

Great hunt with some great finds! That's an awesome pewter US button! :icon_thumleft:

Way to go on the Jew's Harp and another shield nickel Shane! :icon_thumright:

Do you ever try to piece back any of the China pieces you collect?

When you're finding brass, pewter and pottery like that you know that silver is lurking nearby. I'm sure you'll be swinging your coil over some very soon. Good luck!

Never done it. The pottery is scattered over a large area, so no hope of piecing back together. Some pieces we've collected I'm certain are from the same item, but little hope with all the fragments lost. Still makes a fun display though. :)

Hey buddy! That hunt i used the F 75, Cortes and Cibola. I keep switching up just to get different results. I am getting happier with the 75 and odds are i will eventually fall completely in love with it, but for now we are just dating :)

That is the good thing about dating...YOU CAN PLAY THE FIELD IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!!!!! Ha Ha:laughing7:

Yep. He is. He decided to keep it rather than sell, which I think was a good move.

I think we have talked him into keeping it. I want to get him on some bullets so he can see it shine. Noting like the F75 with that sweet mello lead tone. I love it!!!!! Look I'm getting the Jeep setup for an ultimate off road detector Apocalypse vehicle. When I get it all setup I'm coming to get you and Shane and we are hitting 2 spots not far from you guys that will hopefully be full of Civil War relics. IF you are game for it?

great finds. love the militia button

Nice finds. I can relate to your efforts at finding a complete Jew's harp. I've recovered about four or five fragments in the last year, but I have not yet found a complete specimen. Let's keep trying!

Yes, they're strangely elusive. I have dug a whole harmonica thought. Both reed panels, thin gilded brass skin, and deteriorated wood.

Nice scores Buck !

You guys seem to find quite a few Jaw Harps, something I rarely find :icon_scratch: good finds, the pottery suggests a busy area

Nice digs Buck:headbang:

Love the U.S. button and all that glorious pottery..

What a tantalizing group of finds there Buck, lots there to keep you going back for more. That US button is really nice, don't see them posted too often.

Thanks for the reply ZDD. We are lucky here that pewter seems to survive well in the ground. Wasn't that way in Kentucky, where it was normally rotten and flaking as it came out of the ground destroyed by the elements.

Nice complete harp. A complete one is still on my wishlist. It wont be long and the Spanish will be in the bag ...

I hope so! We need another one. I'm starting to think we won't even make 27 for the year. I was hoping for 31, so we'd have 50 in 2 years. It has been too wet here, hard to explain, but when they burn the cane fields off it creates a tar when the fields are wet that stains everything. We're holding our breath to see if they plow our best fields. If not, we might get a couple more spanish this year, but we won't likely get 31.

Thanks for your reply my friend,

Buck

Nice finds, Glad to see you finding pewter buttons in such good shape.
