Beautiful uniquely engraved colonial cufflink dug in Sunbury, GA. Looks like lovebirds or partridges IMO?

That is amazing! How did it survive all these years in such great condition!

Very nice find. HeavyMetalNut just dug a pair of these this past weekend at a colonial site in Connecticut. It's very interesting that the same exact design was also found in Georgia. There must have been quite a few pairs of this design imported during colonial times. I would guess British manufacture.

That’s interesting. Cufflinks come in pairs. There was someone that dug one cufflink with the loop attached in Charleston. HeavyMetalNut could have found the other complete cufflink to the pair? Maybe there are more of these? I don’t think that they were mass produced though. Thanks.

"Two little birds are on my cufflink, detector singing a sweet tone, saying - Dig, Dig, Dig me up!" Any Bob Marley fans out there? Nice find!

They were definitely mass produced in terms of 1700's manufacturing. There are certainly more of these cuff links in the ground. I highly doubt that HeavyMetalNuts pair would have been the other complete cuff link to your find. No, they were imported probably in barrels on wooden ships from England. There, literally, could have been hundreds, if not thousands, of identical cuff links imported. Over time and centuries most are lost now to time so it's still a great find.
