Colonial iron, as in flat as a pancake.

Interesting find, but it appears to be a little too thin to be a flat iron, at least based on all the ones I've recovered. However, I don't have an alternate ID to suggest. Can you see the 2 spots where a handle may have been attached?
 

Bill, there is still a lot of encrustation on it, so I haven't been able to determine that yet, or which side is "up". I have rust in places over 1/4" remaining, which I will get to remove eventually. Site was established by 1670, so it could be 17th century. The last house burned before 1900, with some across the street that finally went down by 1920.
