Hello everyone! A while back I posted a thread in regards to a possible colonial home site I stumbled upon. Well I think its safe to say it is indeed an unknown site...that is until now. I had some expert verification last week when I asked a fellow detector swinger who has many more years experience than I do to tell me his thoughts. Well after that trip he was convinced. He pulled out a few of his own keepers!
The bad news was today was +95 degrees and I braved the elements to try and pull a few keepers out. I stayed for about 2 1/2 hours and called it quits.
The good new is that the area I am finding everything is separated by a fence and on the other side is planted corn. The relics are concentrated in a half circle right up to the fence. I just hit the other side of the fence and pulled out two flats. One is back marked "Standard Colour w/ a Crown and a wreath w/ the number "4" in it).
The cool thing about all this is I have already acquired permission to hunt the corn field when its gets harvested.
The Large Cents are 1817/1844/ and a very toasted early. The 1844 could have been nicer but I cleaned it with water (Never again) My buddy suggested when he witnessed me dig the 1817 to just brush it off and leave it be. Best advice because I do believe it looks nicer and retains more detail. Good thing he was around when I dug the oldest one.
Enjoy and I can't wait to post a new thread in the fall. Maybe time to start water hunting in this weather. I was given an invite and a detector to give it a whirl!
Posted Pics of items dug today with the rest of the finds to give an idea of how much stuff is there from just one side of the fence!
