Hello All,

Shanegalang and I have had a bit of a slump recently. We've found some sites that haven't produced what we'd hoped, and in general it's been hard to make time to dig. That slump ended today. The video below is a "must see," since it shows today's fantastic finds as they're pulled from the dirt:

But, if your connection speed is too slow for a Hi Def video, here are some photos. The Half Dime is actually a scarce date. 1840-O with drapery, close to AU details and still some mint luster on the coin! My heart was pumping fast when I saw that big 1700s silver roll out of the hole, and Shane and I did some serious high-fives over the engraved Masonic piece (that's the find of the hunt, IMO). Heck, even the militia button was a style that I had never found before. All in all a fantastic day, and great finds kept trickling in, which as you know is very rare. So often it's one good find and done. Haha. At any rate, here are the photos.

The 1840 Half Dime was on edge (top of the clod is toward the left (the dry part):

BIG 1700s Silver!! My last 2Reales was back in 1995!

A Beautiful two-piece button that Shane dug:

Here's the 1840-O Half Dime. Couple scratches might bring it down in grade some, but hopefully not more than to XF.

The militia button is a GI56. Backmark is "Lewis & Tomes."

I dug a nice gilded civilian button:

Some of my finds from the hunt:

And I saved the best for last. We think this might be Masonic, or I.O.O.F. If anyone can identify the markings or letters, please let us know. I have a strong hunch this is a late 1700s find. It was made from a Spanish Half Real.

Those are such hard coins to find. They were a lot of money back then. Congrats on getting your first one--it's a great accomplishment! PA has some fantastic finds waiting to be dug!

Cheers,

Buck

You guys had a GREAT DAY! Congratulations to all! :icon_thumright:

Nice finds man......that is really awesome

Could you post a photo of the brass piece? I'd love to see it!

Cheers,

Buck
Hi Buck, I was wrong, the Odd Fellows has the hand with the heart in it and the all seeing eye with the 3 linked chain and shepherds staff. I do have a cloak clasp with the hands shaking surrounded by a wreath though :) I added a pic of both for you, let me know if you find out anything on the hand shake symbol, Thanks, Dave

Great post! Congratulations! H Digs :)

Wow! What some awesome finds, Congratulations.

Great finds! That Masonic looking piece could be a lot of things I am guessing, but being a Mason myself, the postioning of the hands and thumb does lean towards what looks like a Masonic Symbol. A quick Internet search for Masonic hand shakes would show what I mean (if have not yet that is).

Again, very nice finds!

GREAT finds as always BB and SHANE!!!! Any would've made the hunt for me. I found this piece in JAN and I'm not real sure what it is or what the symbol's were until your post. Keep at it BANDITS!! CONGRATS.. HHIMG_0585.JPG

OK, that is the piece that I thought Don in SJ had dug one of before. The eye and rays was what made me think Shane's handshake piece was masonic. Not sure what the symbols mean, but with the lamb perhaps something religious? Your find is a suspender clip, and I have seen that same piece here before, because we found the EXACT patent for it in an old post here on Tnet. I'll do some looking around, cause I know it's on the forum somewhere.

Nice finds Buck.
Your silver piece has AMI on it. In French word AMI means ("Friend") Thus the hand shake.
Looks like wheat stalks.

How about A DE F being Association Des Femmes" French". Start of the women's movement in Louisiana 1879. Society fob or medal.

Just a guess.
