It's been about 2 weeks since I had a full day to detect and of all days I get to go out it's cold and windy! It was nice when the sun popped out though. Either way, I went to the Winchester spot we've been hitting now for almost 2 years. We're still pulling some keepers out of there. Only thing is the farm is so huge and the fields are so big, you walk yourself to death sometimes. I started out the hunt with a rivet and a flat button as soon as I hit the field. Found 2 more rivets after that and a burnside and a spencer. Came back up to the front of the field where I found my sword plate a couple weeks ago and wasn't finding much. Found a few odds and ends, button back, another thing that looks like a button I guess...it's the item with the star in the middle. Worked my way up toward the slope of this hill in the field and pulled my second V nickel for the year...looks like a 1906. I was hoping for a shield nickel, but I'll take it anyway. I wondered around a bit more and pulled a few more bullets. Nothing too grand, but we know it's not always that way.

Can anyone I.D the piece in the pictures that I'm holding? Has a hole on the side of it...I was thinking it was a finial at first, but really not sure. Almost looks like a tuner for an instrument maybe...like a banjo perhaps. Any help would be great. Thanks for looking and HH!

Another great day Matt, congrats!!!!

Congrats on the finds! The star piece, could that be the round key part to a oil lamp? Not sure about the other thing. Awesome V nickel, I can't wait to dig one!

It's possible it could be to an oil lamp I suppose. I was figuring an early 1900's overall button of some sort. Can't tell for sure.

You beat me today Matt... I enjoy the cold weather though when hunting beats the snakes, ticks and poison ivy any day.. The colder the better (well maybe not like 10 degrees cold lol) I was out surveying a new site today and spent 3 hours free roaming and only got one 3 ringer and didn't see any signs of hut sites or camp location. So it was a bust for me glad someone came out with something! :occasion14:

Yeah that cold wind was bad here to.Cool and interesting digs buddy.way to go

All these old coins from late 18 early 1900`s make me jealous lol,I live in VA an there is mounds of old stuff in the ground,My oldest coin to date is a 1944 mercury dime. I just cant seem to get my coil over them but you guys make it seem so simple. Thanks for sharing :P lol. Great Job!!

I've been kinda lucky with coins. Of course the coin to button/bullet/trash ratio is very low! lol
