After the decline of Roman rule late in the forth century England plunged into the Dark Ages more commonly known as Anglo Saxon times. The Coin on the left of the picture is a Anglo Saxon Sceatta(penny) of Eadberht Saxon King of Northumbria 737-758 Fantastic Animal right, surrounded by four pellet-in-ring motifs. The Coin on the right of the picture is a clipped Siliqua probably of the Emperor Vallens (not quite certain) reverse Roma enthroned holding spear, notice how it has been clipped to the same size as the Sceatta this was so it could be used in circulation with the Saxon Coins of the Times :-*

What did you do to those coins in the second picture? They look better.
The two coins were both encrusted with an iron type lare as we dicussed in the PM I soaked them both in Lemon juice taking them out from time to time and brushed them with tooth paste till all the crud was gone, this leaves them totally silver then just blacken them off with demestos then the silver paper and spit to high light them :-*

Uhhh...I think you need to let me put those in my microbial isolation vault just in case there's a trace of bubonic plague remaining on them. ;D

Awesome finds man!!! Keep it up!

I must say when I saw you had cleaned them I was a bit concerned,
I didn't like the look of them in the first pictures, but they turned out OK.
well done.
Dave.
