29 PALMS ,CA
I went back to my same spot on the marine base in 29 palms today. I found 1 dollar piece with John Adams on it, 2 Canadian pennies, 323 pennies, 127 dimes, 73 nickels, and 60 quarters. I found them all in the places marines sleep while they train, in the sand about 2-5 inches down. No cool story, a lot of junk items as well, bullet casings, etc.The pics are todays finds...

your cleaning up on the clad there --btw be sure to check the dates since 1964 and earlier dimes quarters and halves are 90% silver --then only the halves from 1965 to 1970 which were 40% silver -- Ivan

How were you able to detect that area with
all of the restrictions most military areas have
put in place since September 11th? Glad to
see that you could, just curious.

TMC....I have been able to detect certain areas on our local military bases. I contacted base security and talked with the OFFICER IN CHARGE of Security and was given permission. Of course, you have to keep off RESTRICTED AREAS on base, even when I was Active Duty, that was required as well....only those who need to be, are allowed in those areas!

If you are near a military installation, call your Base Security Officer...I had no problems and they have been very accommodating...don't know if being retired military helped me or not....also, some places I was able to detect are only opened during certain times of the year or when functions are going on....where these places were always opened, since 911, are now only opened for functions...so you have to catch them when opened.

Try it...bet you will be surprised. And believe this or not...but when I spoke to the Security Officer, as far as this military base, there were NO LAWS, Rules or Regs that he could locate that restricted Metal Detecting.....I would assume this would apply to all military bases, being they are all Federal Property...I guess I need to further investigate this...hmmm

Good Luck!

Marine1111....great finds!!! Never visited 29 Palms, but alot of my Marine buddies from San Diego would have to go there or Yuma for training....this was back in the 70's...not saying I'm old or anything...that was in my previous life LOL ;)

Good Luck and hope you find lots more wonderful items, be it clad or silver...and if my Marine buddies where there in the 70's....I bet you could find some of that silver change they dropped...

HH,
Annmarie

Marine, great place to hunt. I use to hunt Fort Ord, CA. years ago and it seemed we could always count on 30 to 40 bucks a day in some of the training areas with lots of silver back then too. Happy Hunting

That is alot of coins. I am curious too, how long has this area been used for this purpose? It obviously has not been detected before.

I doubt there is much pressure where he hunts, BUT it has been hunted or I'm sure I hit a few of those spots he hunts in the mid 80's. I didn't find anywhere close to what he finds now!!

If he is active duty, I'd say he has no problem getting to those areas. Different if your a civilian trying to hunt any Base. Not bad if your the only guy on a base and basically have run of the place. There are signs in restricted areas and as long as he doesn't hit those places he'd pretty much be left alone!

Man, your cleaning house out there!! I was stationed threre from 1990-1995. What a lovely place. I retired after 23 years and am enjoying the good life now. Well, not really. I'm sure threre are a lot of good places to dig out there. I want to go to Camp Pendleton and search around. I know where there are a lot of old barracks from ww2. that are gone ,but there are just fields now. I love to find one of thoses old eagle, globe and anchors from ww2 era. The problem with the ground in southern california is that it is so hard. Anyway, good find.

Your driving me nuts with all them coins.......Some how I just gota get my tired A$$ back out there and find something. hehe HH Marine.
