I knew that I had some coins in my safe from my grandfather, but I never gave them much thought.? After being on the forum for awhile, I got a bit more interested and decided to take a look.? Most are not in very good condition...I don't know anything about grading, or markings.? I haven't cleaned them yet since I didn't want to ruin them...I need to read up on that first.? There are 95 coins total.? Some pics have multiple types in them.

Nice collection!!I would not clean them either, but I would wipe them with acetone and staple them into the 2x2 coin holders.Acetone does not clean,it simply removes oil from fingers touching the coin.Stapling into 2x2 holders will prevent any further degrading of the coin. This is what dealers do to just remove oil or whatever,it does not "clean " the coin.

Heheheheh, I grabbed my Red book earlier when I posted, turns out it was the 2003 edition, lol! Anyways, just shows ya how much those CC's are going up, definately hang on to that one! The latest date for a two feather variety on the buffalo's was 1930-s, and there is no listing for a 1926 at all, so that may not be one after all. May just be a light strike.

The two feather variety came about from die abrasion or polishing, most likely when the dies clashed and they had to "grind" them down a bit to remove the clash marks. The innermost feather (the short one next to the Indians neck) was one of the highest points on the die, so it came off easiest, hence the missing feather. The entire Buffalo series is full of mistrikes, doubled areas, over mint marks, etc. LOTS of error coins. Pick up a copy of the Cherrypickers guide for info on nickels and cents errors.

SKIDMLD -> I have an HP all-in-one psc photosmart printer, fax, scanner, copier. I take pics with my Canon digital camera for some things, but coins do alot better in the scanner. Printers like this are amazingly cheap nowadays.

HH!
