Hello everybody
Tried a few sites over a few days inc the beach (where i found nout), woodland, a ploughed clay field and finally a pasture spot. Found masses of junk as i am trying to dig more iffy signals at the moment in an attempt to know my detector better. But amongst the can slaw and shrapnel I found a variety of bits some of which I will post on the what is it section.
1806 George third half penny (well worn)
1949 sixpence (cupro-nickle)
1586-1635 Nuremberg Jetton (sweet)
An old crushed copper ring. Lovely green patina. Gonna post this on the what is it section and ask if anyone can tell me it's approximate age.
A gold ring! Diamond like stones. Have posted an add in local lost and found. It has an inscription so should be easy to ID the owner if they get in touch.
Three buttons (one gilt)
Two pet tags.
And now the unknowns...of which there's a surprising amount...
A big iron thing.
An iron hook like object which something tells me might be firearm connected.
A weird finger-like metal object. Rings like a bell. Quite light and hard metal. Non magnetic. Bit of a car?
An interesting small doughnut shaped decorated bronze thing. Going in the what is section.
A lead 12 sided object. Looks newly poured strangely.
A tiny whitish lead square thing
An object which looks like a shotgun cartridge but has an odd metal stick thing in it. Going in the what is section.
UPDATE a pin fire 12 gauge shotgun shell base. - Props to Buff (below).
A metal oddity with a black stone/resin like front/rear. God knows what this is. Looks alien. Going in the what is section.
A copper ring (two big for a finger) the copper is wound round a central core of some kind. I've not a clue.
A gilt copper brooch/clasp like thing. Cloak clasp piece maybe?
A bit of metal which I had hoped might be a quarter of some kind of coin but I think it's just a bit of nothing.
And finally a bit of what I think (I have no knowledge on pottery what so ever) might be old pottery? It feels pumice like and very light in weight. Seems to have a seam where it broke away from the rest of itself.
And that's that. Gonna revisit the pasture tomorrow I reckon. I had 0 luck beach hunting but it was only my second attempt. Ill read some more and return when the tide is out at a more hostpitible time.
Thanks for looking everybody. Any ideas on the what is bits and bobs then I'd be grateful for the input. I won't get those threads up until the morning though probably.
Never found a Jeton so well pleased with that and of course anything gold is always a bonus. One day though I hope that glint will be a bronze age torc fragment or a Sater or something equally magical. Then ill be well satisfied.
The bit that interests me most is that little bronze doughnut thing. A bead perhaps?
