Hard to tell but it could be. If the brown crusty stuff flakes of fairly easily use your thumb nail or a toothpick to get it off and see if you can see any detail.There probably won't be much but you might be able to see enough to confirm it's a coin. I've dug a lot of colonial coppers and large cents worn that bad.

It does appear to have the same diameter as a large cent. I can't see how some light cleaning could hurt it more.

Ya know what. I don't know if I'm getting senile or seeing things but I looked at this again and in the first pic it looks like an oultine of a wreath and in the second I would swear it looks like a head facing to our left. I might just be tired too but I swear that's what I think I see.

Just started soaking it.

It looks like a Large Cent to me. I've found some that were totally smooth. After soaking in peroxide, use dry Q-Tips to rub the dirt/crud. Breezie.

Ok finished cleaning the coin. I have discovered that the coin actually is the same size, shape and thickness of two other coins I have. One unidentifiable the other a King George 1st half penny British colonial coin. Smaller than a large cent. I included an image of a large cent and the size different when lining all 4 coins together.
