Coin Star rejects..

I've still yet to "release" my clad & crad to the world, so what can I say to add value here. I've figured that unless I get into a hard spot financially - those finds are a safety factor in my life? Yes, really I guess it makes some kind of sense. I figure I'll just end up rolling them & depositing in my bank account - seems we all need those don't we?

I only run them about an hour. I go through the pennies and a whole lot of them turn into crad - start disintegrating - got lucky one time - I should find and post a picture. BUT I had a zincoln doughnut! Lincoln stepped out of the coin and the rims were solid.

I should go back in the penny jar and find that one again! Looking back, it was pretty unique.

I roll all mine except for the pennies and deposit them in my hobby account, the pennies go through the coin star and then get deposited in the hobby account.

When it comes to rocks I was too cheap to buy aquarium gravel, I have 1/4" screening and sifted small stones from the gravel driveway. Never use them anymore since I learned about the lemon juice recipe.

I used to use small gravel and Mr Clean when I began. Now I use real lemon juice and a couple table spoons of salt. I barely cover the coins with the juice. Tumble your clad 1st and then use the same mix to tumble your pennies.

What Loco said! This is a load of clad after about 35-40 mins in the lemon juice/salt brew. 😁

I've never tumbled my clad. Where can I order one, how much are they? Thx!

Something I should mention here...

You know Coinstar takes a cut? I've read 11% plus...

I'd rather have that couple of bucks more in my subsistence :)

Well let me mention a story about cashing in your coins. I have always tumbled my clad in an effort to get them to an acceptable state of cleanliness. Before Coinstars, we had to roll them and deposit them with our account # on the roll. Then came the Coinstar.
If you open an account with a bank that has a Coinstar machine and deposit your clad totals, the bank credits the full amount to your account. There are other ways to avoid the 8 to 12 % charge. If you are 62 years old or maintain a minimum balance, (usually $200.), there is no percentage taken out of your clad deposits.
Now here is a little problem I encountered in NYC. I opened an account for my treasure hobby. Everything treasure related was regulated through that account. They had a Coinstar machine that they called "Penny Arcade" Everything was fine until some homeless dude accuses the banks in NYC with ripping him off.
He knew beforehand, exactly what the coin totals were after a hard day of panhandling. The Coinstars were shorting him. Up to 30% in some cases. No one would listen. That is until a reporter from the New York Post decided it would make an interesting story. He went to approximately 30 banks across the city. He deposited exactly $300. in each machine. In numerous instances he was shorted. TD Bank was one of the banks that shorted him. One deposit was $90. short.
That's 30%. When you add in another 8% the bank would have charged the homeless guy when he cashed in his receipt, you can add another $16. to the total loss. The losses could have been as high as $106.
Needless to say, a class action lawsuit was filed and TD bank removed their Penny Arcades. I'm still waiting on a refund

I use coinstar a lot and their totals have always been spot on..

I just rinse my coins the 1st time and whatever coinstar rejects I bring home and tumble for the next trip to coinstar.. Never tried lemon juice but will next time I clean a batch
