It's an advertising token issued in 1900 by boots & shoes mfgr. Alexander & Co. of Wheeling, West Virginia, to capitalize on the popularity of Admiral George E. Dewey, a hero of the Spanish-American War. Scarce one, too... It lists for $75 in Very Fine condition in the latest edition of Rulau's Standard Catalog of United States Tokens, 1700-1900.

PBK,
What was the name of the grandchild of the designer of the token and where was she born (street address too, please; oh and her complete DNA profile would be nice)? I only have five minutes before I have to log off, if you wouldn't mind getting that info quickly. :-)

Unconfirmed attribution: Clytemnestra Persephone Philpott, 427-1/2 SW Northeast Cul-de-sac, Possum Trot, Alabama. DNA profile inconclusive. Possibly bipedal primate.

You have been one of my best students. A couple of more Identifications and I will graduate you with honors.

Deeply honored, sir... your praise is prized indeed, however undeserved. You remain my sage and mentor.

Nice find, and looks like it is worth some big bucks.

PBK, You amaze me. You are the Greatest!, I don't know of anyone who can identify items faster than you. Thanks for all your help, I know I speak for everyone on this forum.

I have several token of the same type. One I found when I was a kid and one I found metal detecting. The ones I have of are presidents and were given in the 1960's with a full tank of gas at I think Exxon. Most are bronze but the station owners and people at the gas plants got gold plated ones.CAM0007412.jpg
