Found this coin ??? a month ago and forgot to post pictures. Sorta looks like a Indian head except for the fact its facing the wrong way and made of possibly lead. Size is inbetween a dime and nickel. Its concaved. Found 2 of these on top of each other the pictures I posted are of the one with the best details. Has some writing around the outside edge but can't make out what it says. Any Thoughts?

I can only make out the 2 letter they are the ones directly in front of the nose either "ED" or "ND" tried using the loop worn out to much.

O.k. that's what I was looking at and wondering about...

is the design raised, or incuse (below the coin's surface). Is it possible the old IHC design was flattened/ground off, and another IHC was pressed into this one, leaving a reverse image

Looks like someone tried to make a homemade button. They cut a lead disc, softened it up a little bit with some heat and pressed an IH into it.

It certainly looks like an Indian Cent. now the question is - is it mint made (a brockage), or post mint damage?

(or is it a coin at all?)

There have been a few of these "reverse coins" posted on this forum over the years. Usually where someone took a coin and pressed it into melted lead, or some other soft material. I have also seen a die posted which was used to strike counterfeit coins, but this is not one of those. Cool find!

I think I see an "81" in the date area. But maybe I'm just seeing things...

It's definitely the reverse image of an Indian cent, but since there's two of them I'd say someone hammered a penny into it, which also explains why they're concave.

Thanks for the info. Shame the details were not more visable. Still a keeper in my books.

I'd rather have something interesting like that than a common date Indian!
