I'd say Arcomand got it. Just not up on foreign coins. Here's a link if interested.http://www.onlinecoins.co.uk/browsecats.php
Thanks , but I was wrong on the date ? since Queen victoria came to the throne in 1837
and the " world First postage stamp, the famous " penny black" was first issued on May the 6th 1840
and as the same profile of queen Victoria as the coin.........ARCOM

The portrait is the same for a halfpenny, but the back is wrong. The halfpenny with a ship on the back and a queen on it is Elizabeth, but she is facing the other way. That being said, of the hundreds of different coins that I've looked at from about ten different countries none have Queen Victoria (who is obviously the one on the coin) AND a ship on the back even close to the one on this coin. I did find something that it may be or at least similar to:

united-kingdom748.jpg

I know this is not the exact one, but there are many similar service medals that are a lot closer than any of the coins HH omnicognic 8)

Quite right Omni,I guess my "grey matter" is failing ,sitting Britannia should be on the back of the halfpenny. This will involve more research. Thanks ARCOM
