Went to my local coin club auction on Saturday night. Only sold 1 thing but came home with 2 surprise buys:

-Empire sterling weighted single candlestick - $5 (no competing bids)
-Lot consisting of 1986-D commemorative half dollar and a holed 1872 seated half dime - $1 (no competing bids)

Cool! I'm still looking for a decent local auction house. I've been to a few and made a decent buy or two, but nothing to write home about.

Diggum, this is actually a local coin club. You pay a membership fee to join and meetings are held once per month in a rec hall of a local church. There is an auction and it costs $3 to put up to 10 items per lot.

We have a local coin club but they don't hold auctions. hmm? Maybe I ought to bring that up. Do the items have to be coin or precious metal related only, and is it a members only auction? By that I mean, only members can bid on items?

Not sure about the members only thing but I would assume yes. 75% of the auction items are coins but I have seen other "treasure" related items.

very nice! Ida bought that seated dime for a buck in a heartbeat. what's the silver weight on the candlestick?
