Coil Question

You really need to let us know what type of detector youre using.
I've always used the stock concentric coil that came with my detector but I just got a new detector with a stock DD coil and I not only get deeper but I can also cut through a lot of trash where a round or concentric coil would simply miss a potentially good target being masked out by the trash signals.

Hi Silverfinder99,

I just bought a Garrett AT Pro with a Double D coil. I am wondering if a circular coil should be purchased as well.

Thanks,

Patrick

Circular are normally concentric and tend to be deeper. DD's windings overlap so the "hot" area of the detector is smaller in width which means less depth but you are able to get nearer to all kinds of rubbish and still pick up a good target and recovery speeds tend to be faster. In bad ground the DD "see's" less mineralisation.

So in your local park (lots of rubbish) a DD should be the better choice but in open fields/woods that haven't seen to much activity in recent years the concentric may give you the extra depth you need to make an older find if the ground is not to hot.

Don't forget size is important. A small concentric can provide many of the benefits of the DD.
