Coil cover

Really? No disrespect but that's the most ridiculous thing I've heard in a while. Above the ground? I guess I'm as lazy as they come because if my coil isn't scraping the ground then I'm doing something wrong. Some guys will spend an extra $1000 for that extra inch.
Me to...if your out regular you should be going through one a season, I have seen these high swingers on rallies, they are usually the ones to leave first.

I hunt old rail lines alot here. The old "coke", ( burned coal ), dust continually gets between my coils and cover. Not sure how many of you have searched rail lines, but the coke will severely interfere with normal readings on detectors? No coil covers for me... Peace
I would have thought a lot more to worry about on old railway lines, than old coke dust :icon_scratch:

I bought a coil cover and put it on snapped on real good and tight and plan to keep it on because I do not want to damage my coil either I just hope it doesn't degrade the performance of the metal detector
I guarantee it won't

Hay, I was just thinking, maybe you guys that buy lower quality detectors with lower quality coils should use coil covers! lets see, I have gone 13+ years without a coil cover at $12 a cover. WOW!!! Frank... Just a thought, if the shoe fits! I think your friends need to learn how to properly swing there coils ABOVE the ground instead of lazily dragging it ON the ground! High end coils are made of better plastic unlike that chipped ABS plastic one that someone keeps displaying. Frank... The above quotes seems to single out people who have detectors that “are not high end” and also those people who do have high end detectors but are now being classed as being lazy because their coils happen to hit the irregular soil surface and wear off some of that high end plastic. Now that you have managed to talk about the majority of those who metal detect that fall outside your pedestal of perfect existence, can we the imperfect dirt fishermen go back to our own proven way of detecting our way And our choice?
I think you missed the point! I was talking about people that want to keep their detectors coil looking perfect. They have purchased a detector with a coil made with lower quality plastic like that chipped one that someone keeps showing. They are unwilling to swing the coil properly to avoid damage so they use a coil cover. frank... STILL LIFE-0002-1.jpg

And where do you hunt? How much do you hunt? we all have different terrain, I hunt areas that are rocky sometimes....in the woods where i can barely swing the coil. I also hunt about 30-40 hours a week. And I don't hunt by just dragging it on the ground either...Nor do i take 5 minutes to retrieve one target. Everyone has different hunting Styles...My Style is slow swinging and fast recovery, so when i put my detector down, its nice to not have to worry about hitting hard on a solid solid surface

Let me put it this way. I have dug them all, sand, desert, Forrest, mountains, etc, etc, etc. I have hunted from coast to coast, from Washington to Cal. to key west to Pa. I did miss a few north of Pa. I admit that I am mostly a cache hunter, but I have spent a bit of time swinging a coil in my 40+ years of detecting. I swing fast and I recover fast because my XLT can pinpoint dead center, no wiggle required. Frank...
View attachment 963567It,s been coast to coast at least 3 times.

With the detectors you have, you don't have to worry about an extra inch. Dragging it on the ground is as bad as dirt in the coil cover! You are loosing depth on every scrape. Frank...View attachment 963583

Murphy's (law) and I are on first name bases, so yes I have a coil cover. Besides you never know when it will come in handy like a frisbee to nail the sucker that just grabbed your latest find and tried to abscond with it!

I did see a guy at the beach either trying to impress people with how high he could swing the detector, or he didn't realize he grabbed his detector instead of his golf clubs. No lie, 2 feet off the ground on the side arcs! He could have used a 10 lb. weighted coil cover!

Ive seen those people that rainbow there detectors too....its funny cause every swings a little different...But then there are some that have no idea what the hell they are doing

I think it's really a simple decision. If you like'em use'em, if you don't, don't. I prefer them so I use them - other folks - it's their detector and their choice.

Frankn, I did not miss the point, the "school of the pedestal of perfect existence" has closed and the Academy of personal choice is now open and doing well.

I just wanted to chime back in to hopefully make this a 4 page thread about a coil cover..lol

I cant believe a coil cover has so much attention (which ive been a part of too). Its just funny to me

I agree . I wouldn't have expected people would be so hardheaded
over whether someone else uses a coil cover :laughing7:
or Not :tongue3:

perhaps this should go on the ballet in November 8-)

I have never used a coil cover.

LOL! Ever use a condom? How about a pair of gloves? This thread is evidence we are all a bunch of Type A personalities isn't it? We can't even agree on something as simple as using a coil cover without arguing. Well, I guess that is just human nature..

Whaaaaaaaaaaaa..........??????????? Three pages over a coil cover..... Oh brother... :dontknow: Not that there is anything wrong with that... I guess....
