I haven't used a coil cover in close to 50 years of hunting. Actually my first detector an old whites had a cover. I went though heck when it started falsing, back then we didn't have forums where I could go to discuss things like now a days, it took me forever to find what was wrong, that was the last detector I ever used a cover on.
My excal's if I do anything I give them a coat of marine epoxy, most times I don't even do that. I'm not worried about re sale value though.
I use multiple coils and not one has a coil cover on it.
IMHO I would rather wear a coil out then suffer the possibilities of trash being trapped between the cover and the coil.
I am not saying my way is right, just offering a different opinion.
