Yes, you're right, the first date I gave (1526) is a typo. Actually, it should have been 1556 (Felipe II reign) since I don't believe Carlos and Joana produced the 'cross' reales when the Mexico City mint first opened; they had the 'pillars' on the reverse. I note your beginning date for this type of coin is 1572; interesting.

I see in this coin heads, not castles and lions could be of the mint at Zaragoza. (A city) and the coin is the 16th or 17th century.
 

I agree again with Dive Wrecks: That particular feature (unique to Mexican cobs) at the end of the cross bars didn't begin until around 1572 (per Sedwick: The Practical Book of Cobs; p13). Thanks, Stan.
