Two days later and I'm still just as giddy as when I found this.

Monday after work I decided to take a little drive down to Massachusetts to a colonial farm site along the Connecticut River where I have had some luck with my detector. After swinging the coil for a while in a lower field and only turing up a few flat buttons, I decided to try my luck in the upper field which had recently been turned over. The soil was really dry and the dust was awful. Disgruntled, I figured I would do one more pass hoping to dig at least one good keeper for the day. I always look down when I'm detecting, so its not uncommon for me to find the occasional arrowhead or flake, but what I saw laying on the ground shocked me. Staring up from the dusty earth was the most perfect point I had ever seen. I just about through my detector and shovel in excitement. I didn't even think to take an in-situ picture, I just picked it up and kept saying "oh my god, oh my god." In my hand I held my very first Paleo point, this wonderfully fluted Clovis! The point is 4 1/8" long, 1 1/2" wide. I can't wait to get back there and search for more!

Oxbow - Wow!!! Can you just imagine the big game being hunted with that point? Fantastic! I remember it seems not too long ago when you found that awesome ax head. The field gods have been good to you. Congrats on an amazingly old find. I'm no expert :dontknow:, but I would guess that you can't get anything older than that point in the northeast. :clock:

What an amazing find, something I can only hope to find someday! :laughing7:
That's why I always detect looking down, because you never know what else might be there.

Congratulations on making the BANNER! :wav:

Thanks again for the comments everyone. I'll be brining it to the ASAA conference tomorrow to have it looked at. I'll let you all know what the experts say!

Big congrats, on a piece of history the English would be proud of! I dont know anything about this subject, but what im reading here.

WOW! Amazing to find that in one piece, fantastic find & congrats on banner! Most of the points I find are broken from the plow

They may tell you at the ASAA conference you can buy a new car with that thing.Sometimes they bring outrageous prices as well made as your is. I would not hesitate to enter it in any show. I know you do not care about value but it could easily be 500 to 15,000 +. That would be cool.

I do care a little about value, $500 goes on display, $15,000 goes in the safety deposit box. ( a new car would be nice, considering my transmission went on Tuesday). I'm more interesting to learn about the other paleo artifacts from the area and see how mine fits in with them. Hopefully it will contribute the knowledge of paleoindians in the northeast

Get the state to enter it into the Paleo Data base for your area. There are also maps of the USA with concentrations of known Paleo. Your find is an exciting adventure.

NICE!never thought i would find soooo many of these things while out m/d'ing!i get a bigger kick out of finding these than other.never found a clovis,my oldest was a palmer(only 6-7k y/o).u can bet that most c/w camps were n.amer. yrs.before.

Absolutely incredible find!! I keep looking at it thinking how in the world did this point survive so long without getting broken? Congratulations!!

Steve

Absolutely incredible Jason! Did I say incredible .....

I brought the Clovis to the ASAA meeting today in Norwell. It was examined by Dr. Gramly, the leading expert on paleo points in the northeast. He identified it as being made of Normanskill Chert and dating from 12,800 years before present, making it possibly the oldest known human artifact from Massachusetts and maybe beyond! It is nearly identical to the Vail Site jasper Clovis.

Wow, I'm glad this made banner. You could search for a lifetime and not find one that rare and perfect. Museum quality.

Wow, just speechless, find of a lifetime for most. Huge congrats!

That is AMAZING - nearly perfect condition!

Just imagine the stories that Clovis point could tell - the person who lost it 10,000 years ago hunted woolly mammoths and fought saber-tooth tigers. It's hard to conceive just how *ancient* it is.

Congratulations on a truly epic find!

Jason, thanks for stopping by. That point is incredible for sure! It would have been nice if we found more of those points or some shillings today. But that's why it's called hunting. I'm going to go talk to the guy that owns the overgrown field we went to and find out whats going on with it. The old house in front was a tavern at some point according to the old guy that owned the field. There has to be some awesome stuff still there? Hopefully I get caught up on work soon and get some time to take you up on your offer to hunt those foundations before the snow fly's? Talk to you soon mister.
