Clovis maybe, eyeballed while metal detecting.

Eyeballed this while metal detecting I picked it up thinking it was some sharp glass then did a double take on seeing the chipped stone. One of my friends thinks its a possible Clovis , don't know that much about points myself.



Any input is appreciated, thanks !

it is a clovis(because of the base) & probably a scraper because of the offset point.i have found several that look similar to this.check out my small collection of diff.types of points in my "albums".i've never found a true clovis tho.

Yeah I did a search and one paper said Dalton point was estimated from carbon dating to be roughly 12,500 to 11,100 calendar years ago. There seems to be some disputes on the real ages of the points too depending on what site you look at they give different ages.

Both are very rare finds. In 40 years I've only found a couple bases of clovis points. You did well to find a whole one.

Barnes are more closely related to Cumberland, and often fluted to the tip, like Cumberlands. Don't think it's a Barnes for that reason:

The flute on Barnes may run from 1/3 to the entire length

Showed the a picture of the point to one of the locals out here, he goes to shows to buy and sells artifacts and is a collector also. He says Burlington Chert with not the best chip-working but it is definitely Paleo and Clovis. Also Said "He would not trade the point off for one of his best framed displays of more recent points if it was his."
