Story of the location in factual history . Late 1700's the 4th George Mason resided in occoquan va leaving his land to his son Thomas Mason at the rivers edge he built his home called Woodbridge ,he owned a transport ferry which was in exsistance back in 1654 and a toll booth, a flood came through destroying his ferry and booth .He drank alot and one day in perticular in 1850 he had been drinking whiskey all day and told his female slave to fix his dinner ,she told him he would have to wait and that her child was sick .This enraged him ,so he picked up the child and went to fireplace and proceeded to bash the childs head in, resulting in the death of the child ,then made the female slave fix his dinner .Afterwards she went outside to the wood pile where she sat and drank cider till she was drunk and stairing at the axe and she musterd up the nerve to pick up the axe and she went into the home to find MR. MASON passed out on his bed ,so she raised the axe and be-headed MR.MASON .After awhile the marshall came and placed her in shackles and she was transported to Brentsville,Va court house .They claimed she sang gospel hymms the whole ride there .She was tried and convicted of murder and then she was hung to death .The old timers who witnessed everything claimed that her body didnt stop moving for 6 hours after she was dead and when it stopped the skies turn pitch black and the winds howled and the worst storm they had ever seen passed through Brentsville ,Va.

The land was sold at public auction ,currently there are 6 homes siting on the old site built around the late 1800's early 1900's the old plantation home was appearanlty burned to the ground way back when .

Here is some history of the area. http://www.historicprincewilliam.org/woodbridge.html

Nice story.... thanks for sharing. ::) I will search for a link or reference since you didnt include one. George Mason IV labeled the slave trade as "diabolical," "disgraceful," "infamous," and "detestable," even though he owned slaves himself. Many questions remain about our founding fathers views on slavery. http://mises.org/story/2115

interesting button. I hope someone can ID.

Maybe cleaning the back will reveal a clue. http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,165857.0.html

Ive been trying to find a link but something is not correct in your version because Thomas Mason died in 1800.
The tenth child, Thomas Mason, was born on May 1, 1770 and died on September 18, 1800.
