Cleaning with rubbing alcohol

Has any one ever used rubbing alcohol to clean coins. Not to scrub with them, but just to remove the surface dirt/crud with a Q-tip or similar. What about soaking in alcohol..I have a few dirty coins and was just curious. Thanks for your input.
