Hahaha,

That's just cruel IP !!

What the hell, its just a lump of metal..... Seriously who gives a rats @$$, the difference between that painting and the coin is 10.9 million minted 1877 seated quarters.... One painting....!! You people are supposed to be smart, seriously what's going to happen to him if he try's to sell it..? Before it was cleaned the buyers would say its common almost 11 million have been made I'll give you $25 now they'll say its cleaned I'll give you $25 !!
Its NOT a 1870 CC with only 8,340 minted and worth $3-10 Grand.... Leave the guy alone !!

Keep @ it and HH !!

Glad you see the humour in it because it's only for fun. I have good friends that polish their dug silver and I do shake my head at them, but they nor I could care less, and we all laugh about it.

The coin will look a lot better if you leave it in direct sun light, this will tone the coin, but will take a bit of time, but there are other ways to.....nice coin :icon_thumright:

Once it's cleaned like that you have probably left tiny scratches in the surface called hairlines which permanently detract from the coin. After you find a coin, why not leave it as is after a quick rinse in soapy water to remove the dirt? It can always be polished later on. But after polishing it can never return to its previous state.

And since this has turned into a negative thread this is the last time I will view it. Just think it over and remember you can always polish it in the future if original surfaces don't thrill you. But you can never unpolish a coin once its done.

SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO CLOSE THIS THREAD
The thread is about YOUR coin, and nobody elses, why close it, you like your coin the way you have it, tough if nobody else does. I like it, and I can tell you this, When I get ancient coins I strip them right back if they are cruded, and then tone them off, and I wouldn't care a bit what anybody else says.

Well said

SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO CLOSE THIS THREAD

Why? It's like most any other thread on the forums by the third page, personal taste, ego, blindness, deafness, on & on, out rules the actual subject matter that the thread started from. It's funny how things go like your coin, it's the way you wanted it to look like in your finds display, your happy with it and that's what really counts here, it's the folks that can't get over the personal choice of another. If it's not their personal choice then bash the result till the cows come home.
If you posted up a picture of the coin cleaned that would make the world happy, and this marvelous example had a huge gouge out the face from the shovel or digger the post would be full of sympathetic replies as most have done it also in their digging careers, and not the cry of how sloppy could one be at the extraction of the silver.

I like the thread.... it reminds me of when me and my dad were trying to decide what color to paint the 55 Chevy we were restoring. A man I considered an expert explained to me and my dad we had to go back to original color. I agreed the car may have been worth more but my dad said he always dreamed of black 55. I laughed and said me too so black it was. Moral is it's your stuff and do what you want with it..... personally I like your coins polished.

I only posted it cause a few people asked me to, when it was cleaned, i don't take this stuff to hart, just was getting tired of the childs play, i appreciate all comments good and bad....gunna post todays finds soon but im gunna clean my coins first this time!!! lol
