Civil war?

Found this today at a 1902 house in Houston, TX. Looks Civil War era to me, but I know very little. Does anyone know what this is and about how old it is? Using an AT PRO and was about 6 inches.

I am not 100% sure but I think I see small ridges in the grooves. If so, it would be no older than the early 1870s. We would need precise measurements of diameter and length to give you an accurate ID.

Thanks for your reply. It is 3/4 of an inch long and .4 of an inch wide at the base. And if it is no older than the 1870s how new could it actually be?

I would say that it could date back to the 1880s. Here is an interesting read on bullet history.

4/10 ths is about 40 cal --- most muzzle loader type civil war era bullets were large size say 58 or 69 cal --this could be from the post war blackpowder cartridge era

Hey Bud.
Even tho It's Not Civil War Era It's still in nice Condition for an old Bullet.

I save all my good condition old bullets ...Hope to make a Bullet "Type" display someday.
