Hi All! Finally first day with no rain and I went downtown to the old park. Loads of clad and what-not, then this popped out from about 6" down.

I think (and feel free to enlighten me here), this is from the 118th Pennsylvania Volunteers "The Corn Exchange Regiment". Maybe a hat badge or something. Help Help!

It reads as follows:

A.S.L. Ent
Co D
118th Regt P.V.

J.N.K (small letters at the bottom)

I also forgot to post about 3 weeks back that I found a NC Sunburst button with a hole in it. I thought it was a token at first, since there was no back. But a friend helped me out and ta-da! Still a sweet find.

It was definitely your day! :occasion14:

Everyone is being so nice and uplifting!! Really made my day (week-year!). I don't think I knew it was so significant and an awesome find, and just really thought it was going to pass by the posts and I would be ho-humming with my little badge. Thank you all so much for renewing my faith in this hobby :hello:

that freekin rocks..congratulations!!!!

It is finds like this that not only stokes the finder(you) but also fuels the engines in each one of us out here drooling over it. Fantastic Save!!!

Wow! That badge is awesome...i didn't think it could get any better, but then it did when subterranean linked it to the veteran. Congratulations on an incredible find 717fly. My vote is in.

Great looking badge. Nice finds!

717fly, You have found an outstanding CW item, congratulations to you! I believe it was made after the war, for the veteran to proudly wear to gatherings and reunions. I found the following on the Company D, 118th Pennsylvania Volunteers roster:

Algernon S. S. Ent
1st Sergeant
Enlisted 8-15-62
Mustered out with his company 6-1-65

Enjoy this great piece of history! Sub 8-)

Yes Sub, you are correct! I just found his headstone in Philadelphia. Thanks for leading me in the right direction.

Fantastic find! CW ID badges are one of the most coveted of CW relics. Some say it might be a post war veterans badge, but a great find nonetheless!

I didn't know Christie Brinkley was a TNet member[emoji16][emoji16] wow, it seems you have made an incredible find. Congrats to you. Looks like it cleaned up really well. Good job all on information given to the OP so they can realize what they have.

Ha Old Dude! Hardly! But thanks :laughing7: I'd rather be dirt fishing than anything else.

don't know if this will interest you.
I can't find anything on
Algernon specifically :(
or the 118th Regt. being in georgia for a reunion.

Congrats on the Banner !

Thank you all so much! I love all the info you guys are giving. Sorry to not have answered more, but I'm out flying the friendly skies. But I'm headed back out to the same area as soon as I get back home. Maybe lightning will strike twice and I can find more goodies. [emoji16]
