Deep Dug Hole, VA
Hello T-Net,

Thanks for looking and thanks in advance for your help!

In the past 2 years, my digging partner and I have dug a handful of similar brass objects that at a glance remind us of Civil War artillery fuses. The "fuse" is hollow which can not be seen in the pics. There is evidence in the form of scrapes on the outside of the object that it has been forced into a hole (maybe a shell). Likewise, the inside of the fuse seems to have had something forced into it as it has long scrapes as well.

We have dug these items in three different locations in eastern Virginia. At each spot we have found Civil War items and specifically both Union and Confederate Artillery buttons.

If anyone can help with an ID....I would greatly appreciate it!!

Keep Digging!!

Bigcypresshunter,
The four bigger ones look like T bushings measurements would tell for sure.
The small threaded one is not a model T bushing, I dont know what it is.
Yes I notice the center one is different. They are about 1and1/4" tall by about 1and1/8" across the top. I think this is another example of Model T bushings found. Someone changed out all 4.

Thanks a lot for clearing this up for me. I will make a note in my M&M book for future reference. Monty

Hi All,

I am new to the site and the first time I open the site I see this fuse that looks like the one I recently found near the Bentonville N.C battlefield.
Although my fuse appears to be of metal..not pewter or brass and was wondering if in fact this is a fuse.
I found a 3 ringer and lead pieces with a few feet of this item...so now I like to know if in fact this is a fuse or not.
I notice there has been comments to item 51 & 52 which look like the same item, but my item is metal and does not have any lines on the outside as the others appear in the pictures.
It was funny because the other day I was near Petersburg and this man had a cannon ball from the area and when I looked and felt the hole where the fuse is it felt the same size as my fuse I found.
So any help would be appreciated.
