The writing says excelsior. Found around an 1800s house. IMG_0590.JPG
 

I have did a lot of looking seems suspenders were not a issued item during the CW...so that would probably rule out New York and the CW....As mentioned there was a excelsior motorcycle...I actually have a tag from the company....so it could be a club item....Interesting find Jason....I know your pumped...Soup

That name is also associated with padlocks and shoes. Bikes too.

Hello Lakebum. I don't know if this will help but we found an Excelcior button at an 1880's farm site here in FL. I seems like my research indicated that it belonged to the NY State Militia. Nice find, definitely a keeper.

Yah we thought it was NY militia too. Thanks for your help guys! Half the fun for a science/history teacher is the research about what I found :D

Your buckle is made exactly like one made by the Russian Buckle co. Has nothing to do with the country of Russia by the way. There was a cross piece (yours is missing) that would have had Patent July, 1863. I personally don't think it has anything to do with the state of New York but I can't prove it. I am almost sure that it was made during the civil war and it is a good find. Tennessee digger
